Reflecting on 2024

At the start of a new year, I like to pause and reflect. For me, it’s not about setting massive resolutions but about taking stock of what’s happened and figuring out where to put my energy moving forward. In Episode 51, I share how I prepare my mindset for the year ahead while living with a health condition.

2024 was a big year. Moving to 100 acres at Daisy Hill was a massive shift. It was exhausting—mentally and physically—but starting new traditions here has been so worth it. Living close to nature has brought me so much peace. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that my cancer has stayed in remission while we’ve been here.

I’ve also reflected on my health. Chronic pain and fatigue are still part of my everyday reality, but they don’t define everything. This time of year can stir up emotions, and while reflecting isn’t always easy, it’s helped me see how far I’ve come.

Shifting My Focus

One thing I’ve learned is the importance of shifting my focus. It’s easy to get caught up in what’s hard, but I try to balance that by celebrating what’s gone well too. For example, the move to Daisy Hill might have been tiring, but it’s given me a space that feels like home. My health is far from perfect, but being in remission is something I’m so grateful for. And work-wise, it’s been a huge leap of faith committing fully to Hurdle2Hope, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Looking Ahead to 2025

Looking ahead to 2025, I’m focusing on a few key areas. Personally, I can’t wait to move out of the caravan into the unit we’re building. It’s small but perfect—a desk with a view, a little fire, and aircon while still being off-grid. For my health, I’m focusing on MS and adapting to what my body needs to stay strong. Work-wise, there’s so much to look forward to—hosting amazing podcast guests, running workshops for healthcare professionals, and expanding my Healing Mindset course.

It’s not about trying to control every detail of what’s to come. Living with chronic illness has taught me that plans can change in an instant. But reflecting on what I’ve learned, and setting small intentions for the future, gives me the confidence to keep moving forward.

Episode 51 Transcript

[00:00:00] Teisha Rose: Hey there, Teisha here, and welcome to episode 51 of Wellbeing Interrupted. I've actually taken two weeks off the podcast instead of the planned one week, because as I came to the end of the year, my body, my mind really needed a break. So hopefully you've also had Really good break over the Christmas holiday period.

[00:00:26] For me, I unplugged from socials as well, so I didn't post much, but I've had such a relaxing and rejuvenating time. We've had our first Christmas here at Teisha. Daisy Hill. Um, Mum and Dad came up, which was great, and we went out for Christmas lunch. So, yeah, it's been really lovely and laid back. So, if you're new, I live in Australia, so it's summertime here.

[00:00:52] Summertime, now living in the bush. So, um, about, you know, right central Victoria, which is the southern state of Australia. It's been bushfire season. So yeah, it's hotting up and it's new challenges, but we're all prepared and it's been a really relaxing, lovely time. So today's a really quick episode, but I wanted to come on to give you an update and to say hello and to reconnect because I Also realise that when you're living with an illness, this time of year can bring mixed emotions.

[00:01:34] You're reflecting on the year that was, and that can stir things up emotionally. You then begin looking ahead, and sometimes that can create anxiety, whether it's knowing what's ahead, but also the uncertainty of The Unknown. So in today's episode, I want to share how I get my mindset ready for the new year.

[00:02:01] Hope you enjoy the episode. And you'll notice I'm not going to use the same intro because we're working on a new intro for 2025. So I'll chat again soon.

[00:02:17] The first part of this episode, I want to really talk about the mindset. We need to reflect on the past year, but what I really encourage you to do is reflect on the year that's been. The good part about reflecting and looking back is using what you've learnt to move forward. So this is how I do it and I encourage you to do something similar.

[00:02:50] So if I reflect on What's happened personally, as I mentioned, we've moved to 100 acres of land, a massive, massive shift. We decided to do that in March, sold by May, and then we moved. It was physically exhausting. But, instead of just focusing on how exhausting the move was, I focus on how much I love living on this new acreage.

[00:03:24] I focus on the positives of how good this space is for my healing. I don't think there's any coincidence that my cancer remains in remission. because I am now so at peace. I've never experienced just waking up, going outside, listening to the sounds around me. I'm loving it so much. So what I've done there is, you know, reflect on personally what's happened, but then shift it, not just to all these Awful things that have happened and, oh gosh, that's why I'm so tired, it's been so hard, it's been so rough.

[00:04:08] But instead, shift that focus on to the positives that have happened and use that as a way of practicing That shift of focus. And we'll do the same with the next area, which is my health. You know, as I said, my body has been through such a lot. Chronic pain, side effects of hormone therapy. It's pretty awful when it's so hot because not only all the hot flushes from that, my body with really struggles in heat anyway, so I'm not comfortable.

[00:04:49] Great at coping with that. My legs definitely aren't as strong as they were. Even my voice over the last couple of weeks, it hasn't been as good and is a bit of insight, I think, into the tension in my body at the moment. So reflecting on that, again, I need to shift the focus. Yes, they're indicators of what I need to work on.

[00:05:19] So we work on those. But then I celebrate being in remission. I celebrate there's no cancerous cells in my body. And I celebrate how amazing that is. And then the next day So we looked at personally what's going on, you know, health wise, what's going on. And then I look at my business and for you, it might be work.

[00:05:44] 2024 has been amazing. I've fully committed to my business, Hurdle2Hope, and that's been scary, but so fulfilling. This time last year, I was learning about podcasts. Now I'm up to episode 51 and doing that podcast every week, developing Hurdle2Hope. Workshops, which I'm currently doing for the disability sector, having the talk at the MindBodySpirit Festival, also having my Healing Mindset course available.

[00:06:21] I've also taken the step to invest in an amazing virtual assistant. MJ, and she's incredible. That's why everything's looking so good at the moment. Also a business coach and content strategist. So I'm doing all of these things, which is scary, but I am in reflecting I'm so happy that I've made that leap of faith.

[00:06:48] I'm so grateful for the amazing women I have around me. And I'm also amazed at how my career, as I've mentioned before in episode 45, and that's how You can still build a meaningful career through illness, and that's what I'm doing now, and everything I've learned in my career from starting in learning development at Telstra, and then becoming a social worker, all of these experiences have really helped me pull this all together now.

[00:07:30] And You know, living with an illness has made Hurdle2Hope more challenging, of course, but also creating a business where I can honour my own health, where I can connect and learn from others going through their own health journeys, that's been amazing. And I am so grateful and I know big things will happen in 2025.

[00:08:02] So once you start reflecting and do that and press pause and really look at what's happened personally, health wise, what's happened work, Business What's Happened, focusing on and writing down the hard things that you've gotten through, but also shifting your mindset, shifting your focus onto the amazing things and the achievements you've made as well.

[00:08:30] Once you've done that, then let's prepare our mindset for the year ahead. So we need to shift our focus In looking forward, at the start of a new year, it's so easy to feel stress and anxiety about the unknown, but the reality is we can't control what's ahead. What my cancer diagnosis taught me is that whatever comes, you know, that's okay, because I can apply what I've learnt, the lessons I've learnt last year, the year before, or what All the years before in living with MS, I can apply those to any challenge ahead.

[00:09:16] So instead of worrying about what my next PET scan will show, I want to focus on what excites me in the year ahead and that's what I encourage you to do as well. Because what I truly believe, and I keep talking about Episode 14, which is on manifestation, is if we focus on what gets us excited, that's going to bring us energy to create momentum to keep moving forward.

[00:09:47] and for good things to happen. Whereas if I was just to sit here, close door in the caravan and just focus on cancer is going to come back, I don't know what to do, you know, being scared about that, that's not going to create a good headspace for me. So again, let's look at your focus in 2025. From a personal perspective, for me, 2025 is all about moving out of the caravan and into the unit we're building.

[00:10:20] It's not a massive dream house. But we're so excited. I said to Andrew, we're doing it the right way round. We've gone from, you know, our house to living in the caravan and now into a small unit. So excited. The unit will be plenty big enough and a place where I can put a desk and I can look out to the beautiful view.

[00:10:42] We can have a little fire in there. We can have air con and we'll be living off the grid, which is amazing. So that's what I'm really excited about personally. Also, health wise, you know, if you look at your health, for me, looking ahead, it's about embracing life in remission and focusing on MS and really building my strength and adapting to what my body needs.

[00:11:10] This year already, I've, I've interviewed, um, some amazing guests and Last episode in episode 50 was really good and I talked to Francesca about, um, people pleasing boundaries and living in alignment. She was from her business, Low Key Spiritual. That was incredible and that really helped. I guess got me into what I need to be doing to look after my own health.

[00:11:39] Moving forward, I've also got some amazing guests coming up and one of them, and you'll meet her, was talking about all the different and all that she's been taking to really help her health. And I realised we haven't been doing that. So I've been doing a lot of researching to that. And so we've started doing that just to make sure, you know, all of our vitamin levels are at optimum levels.

[00:12:08] So we're doing that already. So that's what my focus is in 2025 in relation to health. So really, For yourself, what do you want to focus on in 2025 in relation to embracing life with your health condition? So once you've looked at personally, health wise, and then for work and for business, what have you got to look forward to that excites you?

[00:12:34] For me, I've got some, as I mentioned, some incredible interviews coming up with other people living with health conditions and those who we can learn from as well in terms of their expertise. Also, I really want to focus as well on supporting those in our broader networks. So doing workshops for practitioners and, which is really exciting and Working with those living with a health condition through my course Healing Mindset, and that's all been updated and also ready to go.

[00:13:17] So yeah, instead of looking ahead in this year and thinking, oh gosh, I'm not excited about work, it's so draining. Really try and shift that focus in terms of how you can make that experience better for you, how you can align it with your health and well being as well. And as I mentioned, have a listen to my episode, episode 45, because I'm Living with a health condition doesn't mean you can't enjoy your work life, but we just have to be open to do things differently.

[00:13:52] And actually, just thinking of it as well, in episode 46, I spoke to Trish Gent, and Trish was a nurse. working, a senior role, working in really high stressful positions and she's changed her career and still working in nursing but also as a yoga instructor. Then I spoke to Erin Buck, you know, she lives with a back injury.

[00:14:23] I had three massive, massive surgeries. She's had to change from teaching to then being A dog walker was another career change and then she had to change that again and now she's got a business for virtual assistants and she's doing all of that as well. So that's, you know, another way of opening your mind by listening to other people's stories about their career and even Episode 47, Ronni Morgan.

[00:14:55] Ronni was amazing and Ronni now, living w hEDS. You'll have to listen to the episode, I forget what it stands for, but she's got a chronic illness. She's also now, um, being a virtual assistant. So, they're Life has changed a lot. Um, but yeah, they've found now another career path.

[00:15:26] Okay, so thank you for joining me for this quick episode. As you start 2025, I encourage you to really focus on your mindset. Practice when you're reflecting on 2024 to shift your focus, train yourself to see how that makes you feel from shifting your focus on all the challenges and everything that was difficult.

[00:15:53] You know, be authentic to that, but we don't want to stay in that space and then shift it to the positives, what you've learnt from the challenges, what you've learned You've achieved. And then, let's step into 2025 together. Wellbeing Interrupted has so many amazing guests coming up, really amazing experts as well, who we can all learn from, and get excited about the year ahead.

[00:16:23] Yes, we can. It's unknown, but that can be exciting as well. You know, I don't know what's going to happen with my health conditions, but I do know that after 2024, after all of a sudden having a Christmas and New Year on 100 acres of land, I know that some other amazing things can still happen. And that's what I hope for you as well.

[00:16:48] So take care of yourself. And I can't wait to introduce you to another Hurdle2Hope story next week. Take care.
